If you live near the former Alice Center for the Arts (now called The Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts), 1428 Alice Street in Oakland, you will see the sights and energies of the excited performers who learn and practice there. At their 31 July 2013 Open House, the dance instructors for the children and young people invited children and others in the audience to join them on stage for impromptu dance lessons. Before the lights went down as various dance groups that occupy the center presented their great work in a Performance Showcase, I photographed the delightful children:
The Malonga Casquelourd for the Arts, formerly the Alice Arts Center, is in a restored landmark 1927 building that has long been a focal point of performing arts in the Bay Area. Originally it housed Oakland's Women's City Clubs. There are YouTube videos of abbreviated forms of two dances by one of its several dance groups, Axis, when performed on the television program So You Think You Can Dance -- YouTube subject "AXIS on SYTYCD 2012" or link
